JoAnn M. Carlson, 82, of Jamestown, NY, died at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2020, at Warren Manor, Warren, Pennsylvania.
A longtime resident of the area, she was born June 25, 1937 in Jamestown, NY, daughter of the late Walter S. and Cecil Vanderhoff Finn Sr.
JoAnn was a graduate of Jamestown High School and the Jamestown School of Practical Nursing. She obtained her nursing license in 1977. She and her family were so proud of the fact that she went back to school while raising five children and graduated in nursing.
Over the years, she has worked at Fenton Park Nursing Home, Dr Bumbalo and Dr Weisha’s offices, WCA Hospital Pediatrics Department and Resource Center.
She was a member of Christ First United Methodist Church and volunteered with the Christ First Pantry. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Chautauqua County Humane Society.
Survive is a girl; Dianne Carlson Shagla and one son, Duane R. Carlson, Jr. (Amy Russo), both of Jamestown, several grandchildren; a special great-granddaughter, Maddie Thorpe; and her brother, Walter (Donna) Finn of Westchester, Pennsylvania.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Duane R. Carlson Sr., whom she married on July 2, 1955 and died on January 7, 2019; two sons: Daryl R. Carlson died April 28, 2009 and Dustin Jay Carlson died April 5, 2015; and a daughter, Debbie Jo Seyler, who passed away on June 21, 2018.
Due to restrictions on public gatherings caused by the coronavirus outbreak, a private family service will take place. Visits will not be observed. Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery. A memorial service will also be held at a later date.
